Media in Cooperation and Transition (MiCT) gGmbH is a German media development organisation that implements projects in Africa, Asia and the Middle East. MiCT’s activities focus on the interplay between conflict, media coverage and reconciliation.
For the past 12 years MiCT has been conducting investigative reporting training and has produced investigative reports in cooperation with local journalists in Iraq, Egypt, Tunisia, Libya, Sudan & South Sudan, Afghanistan, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Maldives, as well as several countries in Sub-Saharan Africa.

About the Project:
This initiative empowers Iraqi female journalists through collaborative journalism, equipping them to drive change, promote accountability, and produce impactful investigations on pressing issues. The regular exchange between regional and national media professionals enhances the entire Iraqi media sector, strengthening its resilience. MiCT will support 15 journalists in groups of five, offering a fellowship with in-person and online mentoring sessions and workshops to facilitate successful collaborative investigations.
The Project Coordinator will lead in all project implementation in Iraq, based in Baghdad. Project Coordinator will be supported by a Finance and Operations Assistant in Baghdad.
Key Responsibilities:
- Oversee technical direction and project delivery to ensure activities are in line with the project wide results framework, budget and work plan, and meet all standard operational policies and procedures.
- Complete project planning and scheduling, from the high-level planning phase to detailed short-term activity scheduling.
- Track project progress against high-level and detailed plans, troubleshooting and flagging barriers to success with relevant staff and leadership.
- Ensure that project communications are timely, relevant and accurate, including regular status updates.
- Manage and oversee the project budget, track expenditure and maintain accurate projections with Assistant.
- Serve as the main liaison with the HQ and regional technical unit focal points, ensuring that they provide technical insight and support to project activities and objectives.
- Act as the MiCT’s focal point, actively participating in donor activities and representing MiCT externally with the donor, government and other stakeholders.
- Attend and plan each event and ensure proper implementation and monitoring of project activities.
- Manage project reporting, compliance and all other deliverables/requirements from the donor and/or related to the MiCT’s internal planning.
- Lead the local project team (Fin & Ops, Consultants) by creating and maintaining a work environment that promotes teamwork, trust, mutual respect, and empowers staff to take responsibility.
Qualifications:
- Minimum of 4 years’ experience in international development and/or humanitarian work, preferably including overseas experience.
- Extensive knowledge of and experience in working with institutional donors, including GIZ and UN entities, preferably including relationship building at field and/or HQ level.
- Proven understanding of project cycle management, results-based management and frameworks and monitoring, evaluation and learning methodologies.
- Demonstrated excellent proposal and report writing skills.
- High level of numeracy and understanding of financial controls and procedures, and experience of budgets/financial management.
- Ability to build relationships, including cross cultural relationships. Able to maintain confidentiality, to use discretion and show good judgement.
- High level of administrative competence, including the ability to convene and manage effective meetings.
- Experience of working in a high pressured and changeable working environment and working to tight deadlines with multiple and complex priorities.
- Demonstrable adaptability and creativity.
- Proficiency in Arabic and English languages is required.
The salary is a fixed early career salary of 2,500EUR/month (3,631,320 IQD). This position is based in Baghdad and will be paid in IQD.
