Media in Cooperation and Transition (MiCT) gGmbH is a German media development organisation that implements projects in Africa, Asia and the Middle East. MiCT’s activities focus on the interplay between conflict, media coverage and reconciliation.
For the past 12 years MiCT has been conducting investigative reporting training and has produced investigative reports in cooperation with local journalists in Iraq, Egypt, Tunisia, Libya, Sudan & South Sudan, Afghanistan, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Maldives, as well as several countries in Sub-Saharan Africa.

About the Project:
This initiative empowers Iraqi female journalists through collaborative journalism, equipping them to drive change, promote accountability, and produce impactful investigations on pressing issues. The regular exchange between regional and national media professionals enhances the entire Iraqi media sector, strengthening its resilience. MiCT will support 15 journalists in groups of five, offering a fellowship with in-person and online mentoring sessions and workshops to facilitate successful collaborative investigations.
This Monitoring & Evaluation position requires structured research and strong skills with an understanding of media monitoring and designing a baseline methodology around the media output of the project. The position involves assisting with media data collection, social media analytics, focus group analysis, and reporting to ensure effective monitoring, evaluation, accountability, and learning of project outcomes, as well as providing research support for the project’s activities and contributing to the final report.
Key Responsibilities:
- Designing and overseeing the project performance measurement framework (PMF) meeting donor indicators, including developing the PMF data collection strategy, determining baseline data, developing data collection tools/forms to report against PMF indicators, collecting data according to the PMF reporting frequency, and updating progress to target on a monthly basis.
- Developing the data collection strategy for lessons learned from the project’s output, key informant interviews, and data collection from each media, social media, or media produced by participants.
- Analyze aspects of audience development, including social media management, search engine optimisation, subscriber engagement and data analysis.
- Working with the MiCT’s Project Coordinator as well as Media Mentors to identify social media and microsite analytics required for reporting against indicators and growth.
- Working with the Project Team and partners to ensure M&E tools and processes are understood and properly implemented, and that they are correctly used to report on project performance in progress reports.
- Participating in the regular monitoring of project activities to assess progress against objectives and indicators. This includes attending every event in the project and might include travel within Iraq.
- Establishing and maintaining feedback systems to ensure that project participants can provide input and feedback.
- Contributing to the analysis of MEAL data to identify lessons learned and areas for improvement.
- Conduct real-time monitoring of news sites, blogs, social media platforms
- Conduct social media analysis of analytics including engagement metrics, sentiment analysis, comment content, sharing behaviour, and audience demographics
- Draft mid and final reports that provide media analysis through qualitative and quantitative data.
Required Qualifications:
- An advanced degree in journalism/media, communications, statistics, political or social sciences, or a related field.
- At least 4 years of experience in Monitoring and Evaluation (M&E), with responsibility for designing or implementing M&E systems for Results-Based Management (RBM) covering a wide range of topics, including theories of change, media analysis, quantitative and qualitative data collection methodologies, baseline setting, evidence-based decision-making, social media analytics, and evaluation techniques.
- An analytical mindset and a surface-level understanding of how to pull insights from media sources
- Previous work experience in implementing M&E systems in remote management
- Fluency in verbal and written English and Arabic.
- Strong research skills across multiple disciplines, especially in social media analytics.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills.
- Experience with data collection in vulnerable settings, taking conflict sensitive journalism into account.
- Demonstrated cultural sensitivity, negotiation, and diplomatic skills.
- Ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a team environment.
The salary ranges between 1,200 – 1,500EUR/month (1,742,033 – 2,178,792 IQD) depending on experience. This part-time position is based in Baghdad or another location in Iraq and will be paid in IQD via bank transfer.
